A Summer Reading List

I am not the sun's biggest fan, however if there is one thing I love, it is the motivation it gives me to read. I long to be sat on the pools edge, reading, (in the shade of course), the subtle aroma of chlorine mixed with the familiar sweetness of suncream, the sounds of water splashing and people laughing. For me, this was how I spent my summer holidays; two weeks on a campsite in France, no wi-fi, no plans, no worries.

Its funny how something as simple as the weather can have such an affect. In the winter, reading is all about wrapping up in bed, hot chocolate in hand, the sound of rain hitting the window, reading and being cosy; whereas in the summer you want to be outside, letting time slip away, and the only thing disturbing the silence is the sound of the page turning as you delve deeper into another world.

While this year I am not going on holiday, I still plan to spend my days this way - in the garden, getting lost in a book. So, I have a little reading list on the go; and I wanted to share it.

I kept it realistic this time; gone are the days of convincing myself that I will of course get through 10 books a month when I haven't read more than a chapter in about 6.
I will also be setting up a 'books' highlight over on my Instagram where I will be sharing my recent reads and some brief thoughts, so if you are always on the hunt for something to add to your reading list then be sure to go and follow me over there.

But here is it - have you read any of these books?

Do you have a summer reading list?

  6. I'm not a big fan of the sun as well, but something about summer always makes you feel like reading, doesn't it? And 2 of the books in your list are in my TBR too - Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and Eve of Man! Can't wait to read them :) xx Ain (www.captaineverland.co.uk)

  8. Reading outside in the spring and summer is honestly my favorite thing to do! It's so relaxing and makes getting fresh air easy and enjoyable. I've read Into The Water and it is such a good book! I also bought Little Fires Everywhere recently and I'm excited to read it soon since I've heard only good things about it. Thank you for the other book recommendations! I'll be adding a few of them to my list of books to read this summer x

  11. I haven't read any of these books but I wish you luck with your challenge! I've set myself the challenge of reading 20 this year and I'm finding it quite easy so far, I find the more I step away from TV and social media the more naturally reading comes to me. I've heard great things about the Eleanor Oliphant book, so fingers crossed it lives up to expectations!

    1. Thank you! Yess I have found that too, I no longer see reading as a challenge and it is something I just naturally/happily do. I spend a lot of time in front a screen so actually in the evening I find myself not wanting to look at one any longer and want to read. Good luck with your 20 books, I hope you enjoy them all xx
